6 Ways To Get Back On Track After Summer

Summer is that time of the year when we recharge our life-battery. Long, warm days at a more relaxed pace allow for vacations, time to spend with family and friends and time to rejuvenate our body –n- soul. This  also means celebrations including unhealthy foods and not as much time for exercise.

Don’t get me wrong, summer is meant to be enjoyed, but so is a healthy lifestyle. September is just around the corner and I can’t think of a better time of year to get back on track with food and exercise.

If you have been enjoying summer a little too much and have been “forgetting” to exercise and eat right, it’s time to get back on track.  Here are some tips to help you make steady consistent changes starting today. Don’t just read the following suggestions actually turn them into action items:

  • Say goodbye to diets and hello to proper nutrition:  Diets aren’t sustainable for many reasons but the main one is that they usually require you to restrict and avoid foods.  Instead, find a meal plan that includes education, individualized portion sizes that is based on eating healthy, nutritious food that you enjoy eating.
  • Eat Something! Experts agree that we need to eat 4 to five small meals per day. Each meal should be nutritionally balanced which means including a protein carbohydrate and healthy fat in a portion size that is right for you.
  • Educate yourself: Just because it sounds healthy doesn’t mean that it is. There is an entire industry out there thinking up ways to lure you into eating their unhealthy food. Make it your mission to calculate how much sugar and salt and fat and the actually nutritional value is contained in each serving of what you are eating.
  • Schedule exercise like and appointment and keep it! Chose the time of day that will be the LEAST LIKELY to be interrupted by any other responsibilities.
  • Hire a professional: Save yourself a lot of wasted time and avoid guessing which workout is going to get you to your goals.  Working with a personal trainer is the best way to progress towards your goals efficiently.  This training will include progressions that will continue to challenge your body and help you improve. As a bonus, making regular appointments will help hold you accountable to your plan.
  • Keep a journal – Each day write down exactly the type and duration of what kind of exercise you did, what and how much you ate, and how you felt throughout the day.

Start making small changes to your food and exercise habits today. I guarantee in as little as 30 days, you’ll notice a profound difference in how you look and feel.
